Andy Bechtel teaches editing and writing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He joined the journalism school’s faculty in 2005.
Bechtel has 12 years of editing experience in newspapers, primarily at The News & Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina, in addition to the News & Record in Greensboro, North Carolina. While teaching at UNC, he worked for a summer as an editor for the Los Angeles Times.
Lisa McLendon joined the University of Kansas journalism school as the coordinator of the Bremner Editing Center in 2012, after 12 years as a newspaper copy editor. She launched her journalism career at the Denton (Texas) Record-Chronicle, then went on to the Wichita (Kansas) Eagle. McLendon, who also has a doctorate in Slavic linguistics, is the author of “The Perfect English Grammar Workbook,” published in 2017.
Christine Steele teaches copyediting at UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies for its Copyediting Certificate Program. For 12 years, she was a copy editor in financial services, launched 100+-page corporate style guides and edited books on historical fiction and retirement. Steele has a bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and a certificate in critical thinking from Cornell University.
